The Challenge

With a workforce spanning multiple sectors and disciplines, Bambora’s brief was to bring together everyone from the hands-on Warehouse Staff to Management, right through to the Call Centre – ensuring equality amongst staff and creating a culture of pride. Our design brief was to create a commercial office fit out that reflected the Bambora brand worldwide while maintaining a connection with their Swedish counterparts.

What we did

Acrylic was employed to create a dynamic space, and the use of mirror and reflection to evoke conversation and to make a statement in the Reception zone. Our design team were innovative and creative with the use of materials, re-creating Bambora’s iconic Giraffe to provide a clear brand message from the moment you enter the building.

A Courtyard for all staff

The core of the project was focused around connecting the peripheral spaces with the central Courtyard area. We achieved this by opening up their large Kitchen, Collaboration, and Gaming areas with two large bi-folding doors.
Now the heart of the building, this welcoming space can be viewed from all facades on Level One and the Ground Floor as you move around the building. The clever use of timber and playful elephant water features offer an inspiring place for staff to work amongst nature.

Split-level solutions

The office layout and design needed careful consideration to incorporate the split-level floors, high volume of traffic, and the varying needs of both the Warehouse and Office Staff.

Our solution was to design a large U-shape Kitchen that could be accessed from both directions – supporting the requirements of each shift while creating a complementary hub to the surrounding Break Out Zone.

A tiered Collaboration Zone and large group meeting areas make optimum use of the split-floor level. The Control Hub occupies the lower zone and is surrounded by glass to provide visitors and clients with an insight into the engine behind this innovative company’s support systems.

Sustainable design

Sustainability was at the forefront of Bambora’s brief and brand values. With this in mind, Australian designs and products were implemented throughout the commerical office fit out, along with great consideration from the construction team during the demolition and build phases. The use of sustainable products such as corrugated iron and cork helped support the intent of our design and Bambora’s vision for a sustainable workplace.

The Result

The refurbishment has resulted in an outstanding facility that inspires staff and Bambora’s clients to be a part of their dynamic culture and provides a solid platform from which they can continue to build their brand and business.

Merit Interiors completed all aspects of the design, project management, and construction of this fit out.

"Gemma, Bill and the team have been a joy to work with, extremely professional and the thing we liked the most – they listened to what we had to say and worked with us. "
