Introduction

For their new Melbourne headquarters, MEGT partnered with Merit Interiors to deliver a workplace design and office fitout that reflects their growth, purpose and deep roots in Australian trade heritage.

The result is a people-first office environment that balances flexibility, functionality and cultural authenticity, bringing MEGT’s values of community, diversity and care to life through meaningful design.

Raw timbers, exposed metalwork and textured finishes speak to their apprenticeship origins, while earthy tones and natural light create a warm, inviting atmosphere. The workplace is intentionally crafted to enhance wellbeing, performance and belonging, aligning design outcomes with MEGT’s mission to support individuals and future generations.

The Challenge

After decades of growth, MEGT needed a workplace that did more than house their workforce, it had to reflect who they are today while honouring where they’ve come from.

Teams were previously physically and culturally fragmented. There was a clear desire to rebuild a sense of connection, and to create a space that better supported neurodiversity, wellbeing, and the needs of a multi-generational workforce.

Guided by flexibility, inclusivity and authenticity, the goal was to create an environment that aligned with MEGT’s operational objectives, celebrated their identity, and could evolve with them into the future.

The Solution

At the heart of the workplace lies a generous, multifunctional hub, an active, high-use space that brings people together from morning to evening. More than a breakout area, it fosters connection, learning and celebration, helping to rebuild culture and nurture a renewed sense of community.

Materiality plays a central storytelling role. Drawing from MEGT’s trade roots, the palette features honest, hardwearing materials, timber, metal, concrete and tactile textiles, expressed through refined detailing that elevates the everyday. Colours and tones reference the landscapes where MEGT’s journey began, embedding local character and warmth throughout the workplace.

Every element of the design was considered to support the people who use it, through high-performing acoustics, intuitive wayfinding, sensory design and flexible zones that support collaboration, focus and wellbeing.

Conclusion

MEGT’s new workplace is a powerful example of purpose-driven office design in Melbourne.

It’s a space that supports how their people work today, while preparing for what’s next. Crafted with care, connection and longevity in mind, the design empowers individuals, strengthens organisational culture, and reflects MEGT’s proud history and future ambition.

This is a workplace with purpose. Built to grow, ready to adapt, and proud of where it began.
